Travel Adventures

So, I spent most of yesterday traveling to San Antonio for the Kiwanis International Convention. It was quite an adventure. My friend Christine picked meup and took me to the airport in the morning. We went the back way to JFK, something neither one of us had ever done and all went smoothly. I got my ticket, checked my bag and got through security with little fanfare. I spent my time on all the lines talking to a nice guy who was going to San Diego. We board the plane to Dallas and the pilot comes on that they are running behind when it comes to loading the plane with the baggage and mail. It took nearly 45 minutes for them to finish loading the plane and then to get a push back for the plane. Okay...one hopes to make up time in the air. Nope. We were in a holding pattern a couple of times because of bad weather around Dallas. We land on the ground 2 hours after we were supposed to only to find out that there is another plane at the gate and it will be about an hour before we would be able to get to the gate. So, we sat on the plane. At one point the flight attendants came on with the phone number for American Airlines in order to find out about flights and all. I immediately called because I had missed my connection. I got the last seat on the next flight which was also delayed a couple of hours. When we finally got off the plane, I walked to the next gate, got my new boarding pass and then went to get some food since I had barely eaten during all that time. I sat down next to a gentleman with a Kiwanis hat and jacket on. I learned the man's whole life story, which was a lot since he is 90! I went to go to the bathroom and ran into people from East Meadow. I excused myself from the 90 year old man and went and hung out with the gang from East Meadow. We got to San Antonio at 9:30pm. A lot of folks on the plane were on their way to Convention which was neat. Once we got to San Antonio - almost thought my bags didn't make it - but thankfully they did. We got a cab and went to the hotel. After settling in to our rooms, we went down to the bar and had a drink. A whole bunch of Kiwanians gathered and we had a great time.

Today, the plan is to register for convention and to do some sight seeing before the convention festivities begin at 4pm.
