Weekend in Review

I had a great weekend...

It started with the Jewish New Year - Rosh Hashanah...We had dinner Wednesday night at mom's with my sister in law's family there. I got to spend time with my nephew. Thursday morning I went to temple with mom and then spent most of the day at her house with my grandma and her. It was a nice relaxing day overall and I got laundry done. After a great dinner, for a second night, I went to train at karate since the Black Belt Test was this weekend.

Friday was a busy day. I was running around for LISHA get some details taken care of for the Fall Conference at the end of October. I met with the catering hall...went to one place looking at flowers. I also went over to my old karate school to pick up my number for the black belt test. I haven't trained there in over 2 years but for some reason, my test number keeps getting sent there. Not a big deal...I should probably go over there to train one night. Maybe that will happen one night next week when I have a meeting and won't make it over to Plainview for the 8pm class.

Saturday was my relaxing day. I went to babysit my nephew with my mom. He is such a delight. I got to give him one of his feedings. He slept well. He likes to be held a lot but did do some sleeping in his crib. I took it easy at night because I had to get up early Sunday morning.

Sunday morning got me moving nice and early in order to make it out to NJ for the black belt test. When I got into my car, the low tire pressure warning light was showing. I took it and get some air into the tires. It was still showing the warning, but I went on my way to NJ. Halfway through my trip, the warning light went off. The Black Belt Test was awesome. I totally feel like I fit again. I did my push ups (35) straight, without stopping and the Sensei counting didn't even question me using the kick shield for my feet. I did 70 sit ups in one minute. Someone I knew from the old days was the one to hold my feet. I felt awesome. I have now earned my second of four starts needed to be allowed to test for second degree. If things stay on this course, I would be allowed to test for the second degree in a year. I've got a lot of work to do on my boxing skills but I think I am going to make a push for it. My training partner went for his second degree and did great through the first 8 rounds of boxing (he had to do 12) but then he took a hit to the ribs and that knocked him out. I am still so proud that he made it so far. I didn't get home until 7pm. I was so exhausted, I actually climbed into bed at 10pm and went to sleep for the night. If I thought I would have slept through the night, I would have gone to sleep at 9pm.

That's all fine. What, however, do you think about Obadiah Shoher's criticism pf Rosh Hashanah as aholiday that has nothing to do with New Year? Here, for example http://samsonblinded.org/blog/petty-paganism.htm
